Chef  Josh Potocki from 158/Pocket Brunch will be the guest chef this evening along with colleague Sean Esten at The Bearded Lady. This will kick-off an ongoing roll by the pair as TBL’s “ghost chefs”. They’ll be periodically dreaming up new dishes and reconfiguring the menu for the bar.

Looking further out, on Sunday, May 24th, the bar staff of Black Birch will be doing a bar takeover at The Bearded Lady serving up a special cocktail menu for the evening.

This Friday’s Social Media Breakfast will present a program on Digital Marketing for Restaurants & Bars. Sean Wilkinson from Might & Main, Sarah Sutton from Bite into Maine, and Jim Britt from gBritt PR will be the featured speakers for the event.

In today’s digital world, it’s easier than ever for people to find a place to whet their appetites – and their whistles – with just a few clicks or swipes. Social media, local directories and apps have empowered patrons – and changed the game for restaurants and bars.

Food and drink establishments have a wealth of tools and channels (many free!) available to connect with the local community and get in front of people when they’re looking to eat and drink. So many free tools, and for many, so little free time. That’s why we’ve gathered some local experts to shine a little light on the topic.

Bite into Maine will once again be competing in the Tasting Table Lobster Roll Rumble. The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport and Robert’s Maine Grill have also been invited to participate along with the California-based Old Port Lobster Shack. OPLS currently has their first Maine-based location under construction on Fore Street.

The Rumble will take place in New York City on June 4th. Tickets are now on sale.

Monday — Owl & Whale will be at Slab preparing a menu of beer and cider cocktails, and Good Wine for a Good Cause is taking place at Grace.

Thursday — Rosemont is holding a Spanish Wine event at Think Tank, there will be a wine tastings at the Public Market House and at The Corner Store, The Great Lost Bear will be showcasing beer from Rising Tide, and Toast of the Coast is taking place.

Saturday —Maine Beer Company is releasing Dinner and Allagash is releasing Resurgam, there will be wine tastings at Maine & Loire and at LeRoux Kitchen, and the Winter Farmers’ Market is taking place.

Sunday — the 29th Annual Chocolate Lover’s Fling is taking place. Chefs from Emilitsa, Piccolo and Central Provisions will be competing in the Boston Lamb Jam.

Thursday — The Great Lost Bear will be showcasing beer from Liquid Riot, and Sur Lie is holding a wine tasting event.

Friday — the Edible Book Contest entries will be on display at the Public Library and there will be wine tastings at the West End Deli and at Rosemont on Brighton.

Saturday —the Winter Farmers’ Market is taking place.

Sunday — Vinland is serving a Passover Seder.

Tuesday — the list of final nominees for this year’s James Beard Awards will be released. 10 Maine semi-finalists are on the long list for 2015.

Wednesday — Black Tie is teaching a cooking class.

Thursday — Maine & Loire is holding a Louis/Dressner tasting, Devenish Wines and Congress Squared are collaborating on an Ardeche wine dinner, it’s community family night at Grace, The Great Lost Bear will be showcasing beer from Oxbow Brewing, and there will be a wine and cheese tasting at the Public Market House.

Friday — winemaker Sebastien Riffault will be at Vinland for a natural Sancerre wine dinner.

Saturday — David Turn will be the featured chef at a sold out Flanagan’s Table dinner, the Portland Food Co-op is holding a bitters workshop, and the Winter Farmers’ Market is taking place.

The schedule for the 2nd Annual Rum Riots(facebook, twitter, instagram, website) is starting to take shape. This year’s program includes:

• Jeffrey Morgenthaler, author and bar manager at Clyde Common will be teaching a class on bar technique
• The owners/head bartenders of The Yachtsman, a Philadelphia tiki bar, will be teaching a class on tiki drinks in conjunction with the Portland Spirits Society
• Piccolo will be preparing a Chartreuse dinner
• The local chapter of the US Bartenders Guild will be holding a cocktail competition
• A Daiquiri Time Out bar crawl

The mission of Rum Riots is to “celebrate cocktails, bars and bartenders”. It’s scheduled to take place May 30 – June 1.

Monday — Flock & Vine is holding a wine tasting at their new location in Knightsville.

Tuesday — the monthly Local Foods Networking Breakfast is taking place at Local Sprouts.

Wednesday — the 14th Annual Portland Symphony wine dinner is taking place; the 5-course dinner features dishes prepared by Central Provisions, Lolita, Hugo’s, Fore Street, and the Haraseeket.

Thursday — The Great Lost Bear will be showcasing beer from Banded Horn.

Friday — BiBo’s Madd Apple Cafe is holding a wine dinner, and there will be a rose tasting at The Farm Stand, as well as a wine tasting at Rosemont on Brighton of wines from Austria, Germany, Hungary and Slovenia.

Saturday — Vignola is holding their 8th Annual Beer and Cheese Tasting, RSVP is blind tasting 6 red wines, and the Winter Farmers’ Market is taking place.

Sunday — it’s Maine Maple Sunday, Flock & Vine is holding a wine seminar, and Rosemont is hosting a Bean Supper.

Tuesday — the 2nd Annual Brewers Ms Pac Man Tournament is taking place at Salvage BBQ.

Wednesday — Piccolo is holding their 2nd Annual Black Winter Truffle Dinner, Sam Richman from Salt Water Farm will be holding a pozole night at Tandem Bakery (pozole, various communal garnishes, “something sweet from Briana”), Vena’s will be holding a final trial run prior to their re-opening, and Black Tie is teaching a cooking class.

Thursday — Grace will be holding a Community Family Dinner to raise money for MOFGA, Ebb & Flow and Rising Tide will be collaborating on a beer dinner, there will be a beer and cheese tasting at the Public Market House, and The Great Lost Bear will be showcasing beer from Maine Beer Company.

Friday — Rosemont is holding a Cider event at Think Tank on Congress Street.

Saturday — Vena’s is holding their grand re-opening, Joshua Bernstein will be at Rising Tide for a book signing and at Salvage BBQ for an event with Banded Horn, Bissell Bros, Foundation and Austin Street, there will be a wine tasting at LeRoux Kitchen and the Winter Farmers’ Market is taking place.

Sunday — Rosemont and Rising Tide are collaborating on a beer dinner, and the MRW Great Coffee Pairing event is taking place at CBD Diamond Street.
