A new business called Novel Book Bar & Cafe (@nove A new business called Novel Book Bar & Cafe (@novelmaine) is under construction at 643 Congress Street. Business partners Joshua Ames and Nate Donovan are hoping to open their doors by January.
Novel will be a combination cafe and bar “nestled in the ambience of books” where customers can socialize with friends, work and read. Novel will eventually also include an event space where they plan to host local musical talent, book readings and other performances.
Ames and Donovan plan for Novel to “capture the spirit of the growing American trend of Book Bars and to be reminiscent of the classic European Cafe Bar. Come for atmosphere, good company, and great service.”
Novel will be house-roasting their own coffee with beans sourced from Guatemala, and will have a full liquor license serving beer, wine and cocktails. Ames and Donovan are getting help on the development of their menu from Jason and Amy Cote from Cote’s Cafe in One Portland Square. #portlandmaine #novelbookbarcafe #bookbar #guatamalancoffee

Here’s another set of photos from summer Maine r Here’s another set of photos from summer Maine restaurant road-trips—part of an ongoing project to visit restaurants, bars, bakeries and other food venues across Maine’s sixteen counties. Represented in this post are spots to eat and drink in Lincoln, York, Knox and Kennebec counties.
*Do you have a favorite spot outside the Portland area? Tag or mention them in the comments here and we’ll keep them in mind for future travel.*
The details (in order of the photos): The Rooting Pig charcuterie bar located at @broadarrowfarm and lamb crostini with white bean hummus, pickled onions and arugula pesto; a delicious sandwich at @kristasrestaurant in the village center of Cornish (go for the food stay in town for the antiquing); the brisket, pulled pork, cole slaw and mac n cheese at @upinsmokebbqme in Rockland (open Saturdays); champagne, lobster and napa cabbage salad at @inasilentwaymaine in Wiscasset (in addition to the wine bar they also have a small wine retail shop); and finally the 12-hour roast duck topped with brandied black cherries and served with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans at the historic @villageinnandtavern in Belgrade.
See earlier posts on June 23rd and July 6th for more Maine road-trip restaurant photos.

Owners Jason Loring, Matt Moran, and Tobey Moulton Owners Jason Loring, Matt Moran, and Tobey Moulton closed on the sale of @noshkitchenbar to Michael Fraser, Michael Barbuto and Kevin Doyle on Monday. They expect to reopen Nosh later this week.
The new owners plan to remain true the spirit of Nosh with a focus on well executed comfort food. They will be keeping some of the standards from the Nosh menu and folding in some new ideas of their own including a classic cocktail program. Chef Aaron Taylor was been hired to lead the kitchen.
In addition to Nosh, Barbuto and Doyle are currently working to launch The Continental on Brighton Ave. The pair also are co-owners with Fraser at @cbgportland.
Loring has been involved in the launch of a number of new restaurants since Nosh opened in 2010. He’s currently focusing his time on the @slabportland retail pizza business. Moran is partnering with Joe Fournier in the relaunch of A & C in South Portland. #noshkitchenbar #portlandmaine #newowners
