The New York Times has included Douro in their 2026 Restaurant List of their “50 favorite places in America right now.”
Coastal Portugal meets coastal Maine in this modern new restaurant on Portland’s waterfront, where you’ll find all the tinned fish, grilled octopus and salt cod croquettes of your Iberian beach-vacation dreams. But this being Maine, local vegetables get just as much love as seafood. Douro’s farm-to-table spirit pulses in roasted asparagus with artichoke aioli, tempura Romano beans and the Jimmy Nardello peppers that festoon a very juicy bone-in pork chop.
The New York Times shared that 16 of their staff visited 538 restaurants in 38 states to put together this list.
Douro opened in October 2025. The Maine Sunday Telegram gave the restaurant four stars in a recent review.
This isn’t the first time Maine restaurants have appeared in the list. Cong Tu Bot was featured in 2021. Leeward and Twelve in 2022, Tinder Hearth in 2023, The Alna Store in 2024, and both Sammy’s Deluxe and The Pilgrim Inn in 2025.
