Small City Big Appetite Shirts, Mugs and Totes

I’m very happy to announce the launch of a line of Portland Food Map branded merchandise available via our new e-commerce store. Beautifully designed by Sofija Razgaitis, the t-shirts, tote bags, coffee mugs, and stickers celebrate tiny Portland’s culinary achievements with the new PFM tagline “Small City. Big Appetite”.

The totes are great for your weekend trips to the Farmers’ Market or for fall apple-picking forays. The soft cotton t-shirts are the perfect, visible way to show your love for our wonderful, food-obsessed city. The coffee mugs and stickers are your constant reminder to visit all those restaurants, bars, coffee shops, breweries, and specialty food businesses we are so lucky to have.

The initial collection includes:

  • Tote Bag – natural cotton canvas tote (15 x 15) emblazoned with the “Small City. Big Appetite.” tagline and the circular PFM peninsula map logo on the reverse.
  • Short Sleeve T-shirt – silver gray 100% cotton jersey t-shirt with “Small City. Big Appetite.” across the chest and a small Portland Food Map logo on back.
  • Long sleeve T-shirt – navy blue 100% cotton jersey t-shirt with a small Portland Food Map logo on the front and “Small City. Big Appetite.” emblazoned across the back.
  • Coffee Mugs – diner-style coffee mugs (sold in pairs) featuring the “Small City. Big Appetite.” tagline and the circular PFM peninsula map logo on the reverse.
  • PFM Logo Stickers – share your passion for Portland Food Map by displaying one of these diamond-shaped 3″ x 2.25″ PFM logo stickers on your laptop, notebook, etc. If you see someone walking around town with one on their blue iPad come say hello, that’s probably me.

Candy’s is Now Open

Candy’s (website, instagram) opened for business on Thursday. They’re located at 34 Portland Street adjacent to the Maine Oyster Company. Candy’s is hybrid of a coffee shop by day, a cafe/cocktail bar at night and a “queer community hub” all the time.

grab a coffee and hang in the queer library in the morning. shoot some pool. teach a workshop. attend a workshop. come to a show. host a show. listen to our podcast. bring the fam, whatever that may mean to you. drink a drink. eat some snacks. talk to pals. be kind to one another.

Candy’s is sourcing their coffee beans from Onyx Coffee Lab, a roaster from Arkansas prepared by barista Milo Degoosh. If you stop later in the day when the bar is open I can recommend the Mainer’s Sazerac.

Pat’s, Skordo, Anania’s

Here are a few more updates on closings, expansion and ownership changes:

  • Anania’s Variety has announced they plan to close their store on Broadway in South Portland. According to their post on Instagram, Anania’s had sold that store to another owner a year ago and that individual has decided to move on.
    Historical Note: Anania’s was originally founded by Joseph Anania in 1956 as the Newbury Street Market and was located on Newbury Street.
  • The Press Herald reports that Pat’s Pizza on Market Street has changed hands. Pat’s will temporarily close as part of the transition.
  • Old Port kitchen store Skordo has announced plans to open an additional location at the Maine Mall

Old Port Po’ Boys Opens Thursday

The new Old Port location of Po’ Boys & Pickles at 225 Federal Street is set to open on Thursday. They’re still staffing up and so during this initial phase will be open more limited hours, 11 am – 7 pm, and a slightly reduced menu.

Ow a related note, owner Chris Bettera is getting married on August 10th at the Guster concert—apparently the couple are big Guster fans.
