6th Annual Heirloom Apple Tasting

The 6th Annual Heirloom Apple Tasting took place yesterday. This wonderful event brought together 213 apples from 21 orchards in 4 states with New England ciders from Bent Bough, Rocky Ground, Cornish and Citizen, and heirloom apple dishes by Ilma Lopez at Chaval, Josh Berry at Union and Krista Kern Desjarlais at The Purple House – all under one roof at The Oyster Shop on Washington Ave.

The focal point of the event was a guided tasting by Sean Turley (aka The Righteous Russet) who led guests through a tasting of a diverse range of 36 apple varieties from the colonial era to the modern day, hailing from England, France, Kazakhstan and America. Sean provided insight into the science and lore of apples and tasting notes and lineages of the fruit presented.
