This Week’s Events

The Northeast Aquaculture Conference is taking place at the Eastland Park Hotel Wednesday through Friday. On Monday the next Piatto per Tutti cooking class is being held. Wednesday there is a chocolate tasting at Whole Foods. Whole Foods is also teaching a sushi making class on Thursday. Thursday night The Great Lost Bear is showcasing the beer of Shipyard Brewing. There are wine tastings scheduled this week at West End Deli on Friday and Leroux Kitchen on Saturday. Both Eve’s and Verillo’s are open for special Thanksgiving Day dinners. Next Sunday, knife maker Adam Simha will be at Rabelais Books for a demonstration of his work. Portland's Sardine Industry

There’s a last minute addtion to the calendar for tonight. The South Portland Historical Society will host a program called “The Sardine Industry of Portland and South Portland in the 1900s.” They’ll be showing a documentary film and then will have an open discussion “among participants who either worked in, or lived near, the local sardine factories”. The event takes place at the South Portland City Hall tonight at 6:30.

Gabe Rucker, Chef at Le Pigeon in the other Portland, is cooking a 7 course meal at Five Fifty-Five with Steve Corry Monday night. Also on Monday the Slow Food Portland Book Club is meeting to discuss Molecular Gastronomy, and the next Piatto per Tutti cooking class is taking place. On Tuesday Bar Lola is holding a Rioja Wine Dinner and Evangeline is holding a Harvest Dinner. Tuesday night is the premiere of the Maine episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. There are four wine tastings scheduled this week: Old Port Wine Merchants on Wednesday, Leavitt and Sons on Thursday, Rosemont on Friday, and Kitchen & Cork on Saturday.
