Thursday night Slow Food Portland is hosting their annual Writer’s Night at the SPACE Gallery. There are two cooking classes scheduled this week: at Piatto per Tutti tonight and at Paciarino on Friday. There are three wine dinners is taking place this week: at Bar Lola on Tuesday, and at both the Foreside Tavern and Cinque Terre on Wednesday. The Great Lost Bear is holding the Brew Pub Cup competition on Thursday.  The Scarborourgh Wine Outlet has a wine tastings scheduled for Saturday. Both Piatto per Tutti and Black Tie Bistro have cooking classes scheduled this week, Monday and Wednesday respectively, and the The Cheese Iron is holding a class Wednesday evening on American artisanal cheeses. The biweekly Winter Farmers’ Market is taking place on Wednesday in Monument Square. There are three wine tastings scheduled this week: at Old Port Wine Merchants on Wednesday, at Browne Trading on Thursday and at Kitchen & Cork on Saturday. Eve’s annual Ice Bar event will be taking place Thursday through Saturday; the Maine Ice Carving Championship will be held at Eve’s Saturday morning. There are two wine dinners taking place on Wednesday at Twenty Milk Street and at Cinque Terre. The Great Lost Bear is showcasing the brews of Redhook Ale Brewery on Thursday.  On Sunday Hugo’s and Novare Res are co-hosting a dinner that pairs up Novare Res selected beers with Hugo’s cuisine. RestaurantWeekME Update

RestaurantWeekME, a 10-day event in March which was “created to encourage people to dine-out more often,” has continued to add to the list of participating restaurants and sponsors. Bresca, Back Bay Grill, Cinque Terre, Eve’s, Fore Street and Front Room, the Grill Room, Hugo’s, Inn on Peak’s Island and Vignola are all signed up for the event which will feature “specially priced, three-course meals” priced at $20.09, $30.09 or $40.09.

The next Piatto per Tutti cooking class is tonight as is a (sold out) charcuterie tasting being held at Bonobo. Tuesday through Thursday the 68th Annual Maine Agricultural Trade Show is taking place in Augusta. There are four wine tastings scheduled this week: at RSVP on Wednesday, at Public Market House (wine and cheese) and at Leavitt & Sons on Thursday, and at Rosemont at Brighton on Saturday. The Great Lost Bear is showcasing the brews of Dogfish Head on Thursday. Saturday is opening night at Port City Music Hall. Vignola is hosting their 3rd annual beer and cheese tasting on Saturday. Beer, Food & Tuscany

BeerBloggers.com has posted details on the 12 Stouts After Christmas menu that will be on tap at Novare Res starting this Monday. Later in the month on January 25 Novare Res is joining forces with  Rob Evans at Hugo’s on a beer dinner ($95 per person) at the Middle Street restaurant.
This Spring, Chef Evans along with colleagues from Texas and Arizona, are hosting a culinary vacation in Tuscany ($2149 per person). Travellers will “stay at one of two elegant villas on a 1000 acre Tuscan estate” and “Join Three Great American Chefs as they introduce you to the Culinary Wonders of Tuscany.”

The grand opening for Paciarino is taking place today as is the first of the new season of cooking classes from Piatto per Tutti.  On Wednesday the biweekly Winter Farmers’ Market will be held in Monument Square. Wednesday evening the Slow Food Portland Book Group is meeting to discuss The Fly-Truffler by Gustaf Sobin, and there’s a cooking class at Black Tie. Friday morning the Ready brothers will be speaking at the Egg & Issues event about their business Catch a Piece of Maine. There are New Year’s Eve dinners taking at Sea Grass Bistro, Bar Lola, Five Fifty-Five, Frog & Turtle,  Emilitsa and Verrillo’s on Wednesday. Frog & Turtle is also holding a New Year’s Day dinner too. Novare Res is having a tasting of Franconian lagers on Wednesday. There are wine tastings taking place at the West End Grocery on Friday and Leroux Kitchen on Saturday.
