The new East Bayside location of Austin Street Brewery is scheduled to open tomorrow, Saturday December 22nd, noon – 9pm. The new building is located next to Rising Tide at 115 Fox Street. They plan to have 7 Austin Street beers on tap and 3 of their canned beers on sale.

Their new location is nearly 9,000 sq ft in size overall with a 2,000 sq ft larger tasting room and  outdoor area. They’ll be retaining their current brewery on 1 Industrial Way in addition to this new space.

Beginning in January, Austin Street plans to have a regular rotation of seven food trucks serving on Fox Street. In addition, Austin Street is planning to register for a lounge license so they can serve wine, cider, spirits and other brewery’s beers available as well.

 

Fuji has changed its name to N To Tail (instagram) and is now a Korean BBQ restaurant. N To Tail opened Saturday night in the basement of 29 Exchange Street. My understanding is that the first floor is still undergoing renovation.

Farm to Coast Mobile Kitchen opened their new cafe at the North Dam Mill in Biddeford on Tuesday. Farm to Coast is the latest in a series of brick and mortar restaurants that got their start as a food truck.

The grand opening for the cafe is slated to take place on Monday.

 

A new coffee shop and roastery called Time & Tide (website, facebook, instagram, twitter) opened yesterday in Biddeford. Co-owners are Briana and Campbell and Jon Phillips. Phillips formerly worked as the Director of Specialty Coffee for Dallis Brothers Coffee.

Time & Tide is open 7 days a week, 7 – 4.

Bangor-based food truck Grillin’ Brazilian (website, instagram) will be operating in Portland through the Winter. They’ve announced plans to locate at Definitive Brewing on Industrial way, Thursday through Sunday every week starting November 15th.

Two new businesses launched over the weekend:

Totally Tubers, a new food vendor on the second floor of the Public Market House. Totally Tubers sells Russet and sweet potato based dishes. Totally Tubers is run by the same owners as Daily Greens.

De Nada Empanadas (instagram) launched on Saturday at Bunker Brewing. De Nada is Winter business run by the owners of the Fishin Ships food truck. They will be making the rounds at various Portland breweries.

SMCC and HospitalityMaine are launching a kitchen apprenticeship program.

Apprentices would be required to work 2,000 hours in the industry and earn between 24 and 28 college credits toward an associate or bachelor’s degree. The program is designed so students can take online and classroom courses in late fall and winter and work full time in the summer, the busiest season for restaurants and hotels in southern Maine. While employed, workers concentrate on learning skills needed for careers in the industry.

Mr. Tuna (instagram, facebook) held a soft opening Friday, and I’m happy to announce that beginning today they will be serving their excellent sushi hand rolls in their sleek new space in the Public Market House, 11 am – 7 pm, 7 days a week.

Owner Jordan Rubin launched the business in 2017 as a food cart on Commercial Street. Mr. Tuna joins a long list of Portland food businesses that have gotten their start as a mobile operation before making the leap to brick and mortar.

Prior to Mr. Tuna, Rubin had worked at Uni Sashimi Bar in Boston and Solo Italiano in Portland.

A new bar called the Portland Zoo (instagram) opened this week at 41 Fox Street. Portland Zoo is open 7 days a week starting at 2pm each day.

They’re opening draft list includes beers from Oxbow, Lone Pine, Rising Tide, Fore River, Allagash, Orono Brewing, Foundation, and Battery Steele.

All Those Who Wander(website, facebook, instagram) the coffee shop under development at the corner of inner Washington and Marion Street, is slated to open Monday, October 22nd.

Owners John-Henry and Cynthia Mlyniec moved to Portland from Providence where they worked in the coffee industry. They will be sourcing their coffee from Parlor Coffee in Brooklyn.
