The Court of Master Sommeliers will be holding the Introductory Sommelier training class and exam in Portland this October. This course is a required step to becoming a Certified Sommelier, and the first class along the way to full certification as a Master Sommelier. It’s targeted towards restaurant industry staff wishing to develop their wine expertise and wine enthusiasts.

The 2-day $525 class will be taking place October 6-7 at the Portland Harbor Hotel.

Urban Eye reports that the upcoming episode of Eat Street featuring Mainely Burgers will air on July 31.

But 10 hours of filming has paid off. The trucks, one parked at Scarborough Beach, will be featured July 31st at 8 p.m. on season five of the Cooking Channel’s street-eats-centric show.

Cultivating Community and Rosemont are teaming up to run an Urban Twilight Dinner this Thursday at the Urban Farm Fermentory in East Bayside.

This Twilight Dinner consists of a tapas-style meal prepared with seasonal ingredients from local farms, by Rosemont Market’s Brad Messier.

While you are here, explore the Fermentory and sample some of the deliciousness being brewed in-house (kombucha or hard cidah, anyone?) and learn more about Cultivating Community’s youth, farming and food programs.

The inaugural Maine Seaweed Festival (website, facebook, twitter, instagram) is scheduled to take place later this summer at SMCC on August 30, 2014.

Maine seaweeds are poised to play a major role in the growth and sustainability of our local economy and global health. The Maine Seaweed Festival will highlight the diverse uses and benefits of seaweed, while celebrating all of the dedicated harvesters, farmers, fishermen and processors that continue to invest their efforts in creating a viable and vibrant seaweed industry, here in Maine.

The Festival will include a seaweed focused dinner. “Dishes served will all revolve around sustainability and restorative practices of the sea and focus heavily on locally sourced varieties of Maine seaweeds”
