I was lucky enough to get in an order for one of pastry chef Briana Holt’s (@brianaschino_cherry) delicious rhubarb pies. Pie and coffee seem like just the right way to celebrate the start of summer on this Memorial Day weekend. A friend of mine had also scored one of the Tandem mixed baked good boxes. Via Vecchia is located in the building formerly occupied by Vignola/Cinque Terre. The 3,900 sq ft space has a two-story dining room in the back and a light-filled cocktail bar with banquet table seating in the front room. This is owner Joshua Miranda’s second establishment, having launched @blythandburrows in the summer of 2017. Miranda is joined by Randa Vashon as general manager and chef Mitchell Ryan (@mitch.inthekitchen). This beautiful Chirashi (sashimi, fish roe, uni, greens and citrus over a bed of sushi rice) was a pre-order takeout meal that I picked up from the Mr. Tuna food truck in Monument Square. Their takeout menu also includes bento boxes, sushi rolls, sashimi options, as well as sake/beer/wine to go. In addition to takeout, Mr. Tuna has been producing meals for @c4cmaine, reduced priced lunches for the people who have lost their jobs, and food for frontline healthcare workers at Maine Med. #portlandmaine #chirashi #mrtuna #seaurchin #portlandtakeout #beautifulfood #maineseafood
