Tunisian Tasting@Vignola and Construction at Pai Men and Rosemont

PortlandTown has posted images of the Tunisian tasting at Vignola and the construction sites for the new Rosemont on Brighton and Miyake’s new noodle bar (shown here) that’s going in at 188 State Street in Longfellow Square.

It’s the kind of news that might cause Rosemont Market fans to panic — the mini-chain’s original Brighton Avenue store is closing.
But relax. The original shop is closing, but only to focus on food preparation while the retal operation is moving across the street, doubling its size and adding products.

Tuesday Cinque Terre is hosting a special tasting dinner sponsored by The Rogers Collection which will feature Tunisian products from Moulins Mahjoub.
Wednesday — the midweek Farmers Market is taking place in Monument Square and there will be a Wine Wise class at The Wine Bar.
ThursdayDon and Samantha Lindgren from Rabelais will be appearing on Martha Stewart Radio, Victoria Mansion is hosting a tasting of Allagash Victoria Ale, and the second biweekly Cultivating Community Twilight Dinner will take place at their farm in Cape Elizabeth.
Saturday — the weekend Farmers Market is taking place in Deering Oaks Park and SmuttFest 2010, 25 Smuttynose Brewing beers along with a chance to meet the “owners, brewers and general lackys”, is being held at Novare Res.
A Taste of Next Week — Evangeline, Devenish Wine and Share Our Strength are teaming up to organize the Discover the Tastes of France open house and dinner on July 14 at Evangeline. The event will raise funds to help fight childhood hunger in Maine. For more details see this post on ILovePortlandMaine.com.

Whoopie Pie Awards

According to a report in the Portland Daily Sun, a pair of Portland businesses won awards at last week’s Maine Whoopie Pie Festival in Dover-Foxcroft. Anania’s won in the Best Traditional Whoopie Pie and Cranberry Island Kitchen won in the Most Original category. (The Sun article isn’t available online yet).

Taste of the Nation

The Press Herald has published a report on yesterday’s Taste of the Nation event.

The Lily Bistro joined 26 other restaurants from across the state to participate in the fifth annual Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation event.

Nearly all the proceeds raised at the event, which was held under a tent on a deck next to the city’s Ocean Gateway terminal, will benefit organizations in Maine that serve children from poverty-stricken families.

Weekend Events: Rabelais Book Sale & Maple's Grand Opening

Here are a couple additional items for this weekend’s event calendar:

  • Wine Maniac Book SigningLayne Witherell will be at Rabelais today, 3 – 4:30 pm to sign copies of his book Wine Maniac: Life in the Wine Biz.
  • 2nd Annual Sidewalk Book Sale – Rabelais is holding their annual sidewalk book sale on Sunday, 11 – 3 pm. Hundreds of books will be priced at $1, $3 or $5 and all other books are 10% off. For bookish food fans this is a must-attend event.
  • Maple’s Grand OpeningMaple’s Organics is having a Grand Opening at their new location in South Portland on Sunday, 1 – 5 pm. According to the press release, “There will be live music, prizes and fun for the kids, and plenty of gelato samples going around.”
