Port City Life interviewed Rob Evon, the administrator of Port City Music Hall, for the January/February edition of the magazine (article not available online). Port City Music Hall is scheduled to open in mid-January.

A liquor license application has been filed with the City Council for a new sushi bar named Wasabi. The owners plan on building Wasabi at 7 Exchange Street in a portion of the space now occupied by Betsy’s. According to an article in this week’s Forecaster Binga’s Wingas is in the process of opening a new restaurant in Yarmouth. The owner also plans on starting to package and sell a line of Binga’s sauces. Plans for the Binga’s on Congress Street are “up in the air.”

According to an article in this week’s Portland Phoenix, 6 local restaurants have pledged to serve tap instead of bottled water as part of Food and Water Watch’s Take Back the Tap campaign. This week’s Phoenix also reported that Papaya King hopes to open by mid-December and Port City Music Hall plans to debut on New Year’s Eve.

Last night the City Council delayed renewing the liquor license for Slainte and granted a liquor license to The Frosty Mug, a new bar destined for 965 Forest Avenue.

According to this week’s email newsletter from Rabelais, Dean’s Sweets plans to open its new shop on Middle Street November 22 at 11 am. To celebrate their new neighbor’s opening Rabelais will be having a one day 15% sale on all books in the store.

On my way to breakfast this morning I spotted sheets of drywall being delivered to the orange retail space that used to house Percy’s on Congress Street. According to the workman that location is going to reopen as a coffee shop.

According to The Bollard, a new restaurant is planning on opening at 188 Middle Street once the dust settles on the remodelling at the old Pavillion. Details on other food business under development can be found on the Under Construction list.

Mainebiz has published an article with a nice set of photos on the renovations taking place at the Chestnut Street Church. The owners of the Foreside Tavern are converting the church into a restaurant they plan on calling Grace.

One-Eyed Jacks has changed hands. The new owner will be renaming it Olive and plans on serving a Mediterranean inspired breakfast and lunch menu.
