Walter's has been a mainstay of the Old Port for
at least the past decade. Jeff Buerhaus is the Chef/Owner of the
restaurant. While his take on fusion cuisine has gotten some
criticism for sometimes going too far. The Maine Sunday Telegram wrote
"other combinations and fusion dishes suffered from a muddle of
ingredients and ideas" and Down East notes
that the "menu hopscotches across cuisines, sometimes within one
dish". All of the reviews, despite their jabs at fusion excess,
do say there's plenty to enjoy at Walter's, something the packed
tables of diners seem to cuncur with.
Walter's is planning to move to a new location on
Union Street this fall. They will be closing their Exchange Street
restaurant in late September and hope to open the new one in
mid-October.
