Miyake is owned by Masa Miyake. The restaurant is BYOB but the West End Grocery right next door stocks a variety of sake for Miyake patrons. The Portland Daily Sun published a profile of Miyake in May 2009. Bon Appetit described Miyake as "an unassuming BYOB sushi joint, where my five- course omakase dinner rivaled any that I've found in New York—and at half the price."

Miyake moved from 129 Spring St to 468 Fore St on July 13.
